Shoes and Stuff...

Thalia and Anita asked about shoes to go with my fabulous dress. I must confess, I'm a bit of a shoe pauper. I'm really terribly frugal (some might call me cheap), and have a very hard time buying things I don't *need*. And shoes generally fall in that category. (Although I did manage to get over that frugal feeling to buy a convertible. ha.) So I have a pair of black shoes with some 'diamonds' on them that I'll probably wear. I'll post a pic of those soon, since I know you're all dying to see them.

Pixi and Thalia also asked about my 2ww. I tested this morning, because I have my pre-IVF appointment with Dr. Conveyor tomorrow afternoon and I was thinking about maybe cancelling if, well..., you know. So I tested. Yet again, a large white expanse where that elusive second line should be. I know it's early (12/13 dpi), so I'm not totally throwing in the towel just yet, but it looks like we're probably on to IVF.

I'm somehow much more okay with failure this time than the previous IUIs - I think because I feel like we did give it our absolute best shot, so I have no regrets. It didn't work, but it's not the end of the world.

So now I'm trying to think of all the questions I want to ask Dr. C. tomorrow. I definitely want to know what protocol we'll be using - will I be taking Lupron or something equivalent? There isn't much need to 'supress' me since I have no FSH, LH or e2 of my own. Right? I want to know if we will be using ICSI, given our 4% morphology and low counts. Should I insist on ICSI? Is there anything else I should ask about? If you've already been through, or are in the midst of IVF now, anything you wish you'd asked / known? I remember at one point seeing a post where someone wrote about what she wished she had known before hopping on the IVF bandwagon, but now I can't find it. If you know the post of which I speak, could you point me to it?

Hi Nico!
I don't know if this is the post you are referring to, but T. had a great entry a while ago and here is the link: http://goodtimesgoodtimes.typepad.com/goodtimesgoodtimes/2005/09/new_to_ivf_pull.html

Unfortunately, I am not clever enough to have any useful tips myself (I have never done IVF).

Nico,

I am so sorry for more bad news. Personally, after talking to my R.E. I don't see the point in not trying ICSI if morphology is an issue for you. Of course, having not been through it yet - I don't know how much weight to put into my comments, but nonetheless, I hope you find answers and a protocol that you are both comfortable with.

Oh, I'm sorry about the bad testing news. I was really keeping my fingers crossed that you wouldn't have to move onto IVF-land.

I'm curious to hear what your doctor thinks about the Lupron, too. Given the general whacked-outness of my HPO axis, the idea of playing more suppression games with it just worries me a little bit. If January's IUI cycle fails and we move on to IVF, I intend to have that talk with Dr. Boss too, so I'm interested to know what Dr. Conveyor tells you.

Hi!

I have hypothalamic amenorrhea too (among other stuff) and have 5 IVFs under my belt. I once asked my RE why someone with my condition has to do the lupron whilst doing IVF, and his answer was that although HA people do not produce any own hormones to kickstart a cycle they will start to produce those while stimming which sometimes can lead to premature follicle luteinization, so that the cycle is lost.

Sorry about the disappointing test. I hope that it was just too early. In the meantime, I think you should treat yourself to a pair of nifty new shoes. You deserve some pampering - isn't that justification enough??

Good luck w/everything in the coming days.

Sorry the news wasn't good Nico, I was holding out that hope for you. You sound pretty calm, which is a lot more than I was at this stage. But I'm still sorry for your disappointment. Hoping the doctor discussion goes well.

Sorry about the test - maybe it's just too early. Hope so! Glad you are in a good mental place about it - way easier to handle the ups & downs that way.

I hope your visit w/ IVF clinic goes well tomorrow - but I am also hoping you won't need the info!
